William Secord

William Secord is the world authority on the nineteenth century dog painting. He is the first author to explore the representation of the dog from its origins to the remarkable paintings of the eighteenth /nineteenth century and up to modern times. Secord was the founding director of The Dog Museum of America and is the author of several books: "Dog Painting, 1840-1940, a Social History of the Dog in Art", "Dog Painting, The European Breeds", and "A Breed Apart, The Art Collections of The American Kennel Club and The American Kennel Club Museum of The Dog", and “Best in Show, The Dog in Art from the Renaissance to the Present,” a catalogue published by Yale University Press. Most recently, he is authored "Dog Painting: A history of the dog in art." His gallery, the William Secord Gallery, is the only one of its kind in North American and is a popular desintation for people intereted in original dog painting, works on paper, schupture and books about dogs.
