Dr. Robert Reisman
Dr. Robert W. Reisman
Medical Coordinator of Animal Cruelty Cases
Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital
Dr. Robert W. Reisman is Medical Coordinator of Animal Cruelty Cases at the ASPCA’s® (The American
Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital.
Dr. Reisman first joined the ASPCA as a clinician in 1988. As the organization’s Humane Law
Enforcement program has expanded, he has served as an invaluable support to the animals under
his care. He has received many distinctions for his dedication, including the ASPCA’s Angel
Award, the Merit Award from the Veterinary Medical Association of New York City, and the Maxwell
Award from the Dog Writer’s Association of America.
For 15 years, Dr. Reisman was an Associate Adjunct Professor at LaGuardia Community College,
where he taught Radiology, Introduction to Veterinary Technology, and Anatomy, and also served
on the school’s advisory committee. Prior to relocating to New York, he worked at a small and
large animal practice in Danville, Pennsylvania, where he treated pets and livestock, and served
as an Associate Clinician in the Department of Veterinary Science at Pennsylvania State University.
Dr. Reisman has contributed chapters to several texts including Child Abuse, Domestic Violence,
and Animal Abuse (1999) and the Shelter Veterinary Medicine Textbook (2005). He has delivered
lectures and presentations at the State Veterinary Medical Society Annual Conference, the
Veterinary Information Network, and the University of Pennsylvanian Veterinary School. He has
also participated in ASPCA anti-cruelty training in Nashville, Philadelphia, and New York.
A graduate of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, Dr.
Reisman is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New York State
Veterinary Medical Society, and the American Animal Hospital Association, as well as President
and executive board member of the New York City Veterinary Medical Association.
Married with two children, Dr. Reisman lives in New York City.
